Funeral Scheduled for Katonah Museum Archivist

Funeral services are scheduled Wednesday for Shirley Horodas, who created the archives at the Katonah Museum of Art as a volunteer.

 Horodas died Saturday at her New York City home on. She was 86.

Horodas is survived by her children, Eric Horodas and Susan Goldstein, and her grandchildren, Kevin and Marc Horodas.

Her husband of 49 years, Bernard Stuart Horodas, died in 1995.

She was the daughter of Maurice S. Handler, who built Smart Maid Suit & Co., one of America's leading coat and suit manufacturers during and after WWII. She earned her bachelor’s in anthropology from New York University after her husband finished his service in the Army Medical Core during World War II.

Horodas was an avid traveler and visited more than 30 countries around the world with her husband. She was a patron of the arts and a lifelong subscriber to both the New York Philharmonic and the New York Opera. She was active in many volunteer causes, including Hadassah, but her passion was museum work.

Her memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Riverside Memorial Chapel, 180 West 76th Street, New York, NY.
