Bedford Veteran, FD Member, Gudim Honored Saturday

BEDFORD, N.Y. - David LeRoy Gudim, a lifelong resident of Bedford, died Nov. 7 at Westchester Medical Center at the age of 79. A graveside funeral service will be held on Saturday.

A U.S. Navy veteran and a 50-year non-active life member of the Bedford Village Fire Department, he was a world-class horse stablemaster.

Mr. Gudim was born on Dec. 19, 1931 in Mt. Kisco to Berger and Mildred Gudim. He was Head Groom for a member of the 1964 U.S. Equestrian Team in the Tokyo Summer Olympics, as well as Head Groom at Sunnyfield Farm in Bedford for many years.

Following that, he was a truck driver for the Town of Bedford Highway Department, from where he retired.

His passions were his family, community and country. Gudim enjoyed golf, stock car racing and spending time with his two dogs, Casey and Dillin. His devotion to helping others is said by his family to have been "effortless and anonymous."

Gudim is survived by his daughters Lauren (Mickey) Hayes of Goldens Bridge, N.Y. and Glenda Johnson of Gaylordsville, Conn., his son David L. Gudim, Jr. of Beacon, N.Y., his sisters Joan Hajjar and Mildred Barlow and three grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Donna (Hall) Gudim on Aug 8, 2005. Gudim was also predeceased by his brothers John T. Gudim, Ralph Gudim and Berger Gudim and his sister Helen Hunt.
