Abbey, Former Katonah Resident, Dies at 91

KATONAH, N.Y. - Marion K. Abbey, formerly of Katonah, died Nov. 15 at Liberty Commons in Chatham, Mass. She was 91.

Born on Nov. 18, 1919 in Katonah, she was one of five children born to Alice and Elliott Kellogg. Her father was a longtime owner of Kelloggs and Lawrence hardware store in the town.

After graduating from Katonah High School and Eastman Business School, Abbey worked at the Bowery Savings Bank in New York City. There, she met Frank Abbey and they were married on Valentine's Day in 1942.

Abbey worked at a medical office after leaving her banking position, and later for an architect. Abbey and her husband raised their three sons in Katonah. She was a Cub Scout leader and active member of the Katonah Methodist Church.

In the late 1960's, Marion and her husband purchased a cottage on Cape Cod in East Brewster, Mass. After her husband's retirement, they built a year-round home and moved there. Abbey enjoyed entertaining family at their Cape Cod home and was a longtime member of Orleans Methodist Church.

She is survived by her sons Dennis Abbey of Charlotte, N.C. and Robert Abbey of Gardiner, Maine, four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Abbey was predeceased by her husband Frank on Aug. 27, 2010 and her son John Abbey.
