Westchester Adds to List of Recyclable Items

Starting June 1 municipal and private recycling pick up services will have to begin accepting recyclable containers numbering 3 through 7 according to Westchester County law. This means that all containers, numbering 1 through 7 will be accepted for recycling throughout Westchester County.

Westchester County also recycles household chemicals, rechargeable batteries, plastic bags and expired medications through drop-off programs. Other household items that are unwanted but not unusable can be brought to charities, or can be given away through Westchester County’s “Treasure Hunt” program. “Treasure Hunt” is similar to the “free” portion of Craig’s List.

Questions about the County’s new program can be answered by the “Recycling Guide,” on the Westchester County government’s website.
