Rediscovering Wellness:Taking time for You

Hmmmmm, can you smell that crisp air? I don’t know about you but I love this time of year, the onset of Fall. Don’t get me wrong, I had a wonderful summer but there is something about bright blue skies, a fresh air breeze, followed by cozy nights and with each and everyday the leaves getting just a little brighter and more vibrant with color!

Some of you may be reading this thinking “is she crazy?”   I know, there is also an anxiety attached with the end of summer especially if you have your summers off & it’s that time for the kids to go back to school, sports to start up & the holidays being on their way. You may be one to begin to feel overwhelmed as if you’re not going to have time for “you” anymore or anything for that matter.

We can work that, there is always a way! The key here is to remind your self of this. Slot out some time on the calendar for you, just as you would any other crucial appointment. I don’t care if it’s a ½ hour, one hour or more, as long as you make that commitment. Make sure this is not a chore, and that you stick to it; it should be your priority. If for some reason, an emergency pops up and you need to cancel on yourself, that’s fine, just reschedule as you would any other appointment.

Why is this so important? With so many daily distractions around us all the time, we need to take a break. We get in the habit sometimes of following these distractions and not doing what we really want to do. We need that time to turn everything off, even our minds. It’s amazing what our subconscious can bring to the table. Giving yourself that time, really allows you to reflect on who you are as a person and how far you’ve come. It allows you to focus on your needs and wants without the distracting input of other people and devices. This gives you the time to truly go deep within yourself, take deep breaths, de-stress and reset yourself, your mind and your body. This will also give you the time to make any necessary adjustments that you need to make in life whether it’s your health, your finances, family matters. It can be anything and why? Because this is YOUR space and your space only.

If you’re looking for ideas on what to do with this time, consider taking a walk or going to your favorite park to just sit on the bench and think, meditate or read your favorite book, go for a jog, sit at the river, whatever it is that calms your mind and gives you that space to breathe!! Fall is the best time of year to enjoy the outdoors without the heat and humidity. I bet when you’re done with this appointment, it will be the best appointment you ever made for yourself!!
