KATONAH, N.Y. -- The Knights return to the Caramoor Center for Music and Arts for their first appearance at the Caramoor Fall Festival since 2010.
The group will perform on Oct. 5 at 8 p.m. in the Venetian Theater. The orchestra will present a concert rooted in Baroque styles and forms, and revisit the concept of the concerto grosso.
Dedicated to creating music that transcends boundaries, the Knights are an ensemble that includes composers, soloists, arrangers and improvisers.
The program will juxtapose Dumbarton Oaks, Igor Stravinsky's homage to Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 3, with works Stravinsky was inspired by -- specifically Bach and Haydn -- as well as composers Steve Reich and Colin Jacobsen, who in turn were influenced by Stravinsky.
The program includes the New York Premiere of Concerto for Santur and Violin by violinist/composer Colin Jacobsen and fellow Silk Road Ensemble member virtuoso Siamak Aghaei. The unique programming concludes with "...the ground beneath our feet," a fusion of Baroque counterpoint and "modern" Brooklyn, combining a party atmosphere with the repeated bass line of the chaconne, a tradition that dates back to the 17th century.
