BEDFORD, N.Y. -- The Bedford Historical Society, Bedford Hills Historical Museum and the Mount Kisco Historical Society are set to host a special "Conversation With Elders" in May at the Mount Kisco Public Library.

The event is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 10, at the Mount Kisco Public Library, 100 E. Main St. in Mount Kisco. The program aims to "capture and present to the community the unique knowledge and life experiences of the elders from our towns and village," representatives said in a press release.

"These amazing oral life mini-histories will be preserved via videotaping for our communities current and future generations," representatives said in the release. "Our first elder conversation event will be used as a model that can then be expanded across other elders in the community."

The first elder event, titled "A Fight for Survival" will focus on Farm and City Life circa 1920s-30s. The program includes stories of survival from two families in the mountains of North Carolina and Vermont before electricity and running water, a Bedford farmer who will speak of the deep roots the community spanning generations and a 101-year-old woman who will describe the hardships and joys of living in a cold water flat in Brooklyn during the 1920s.
