The lively holiday celebration drew excited visitors and served as a showcase for local musical talent.
Singing well-known holiday songs were a trio of John Jay High School student a cappella groups: The Noteables, The Rolling Tones and The Treblemakers. The songs ranged from a classic rendition of “Silent Night” to a more contemporary version of “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town.” Finishing the musical line-up was Kristin Kelleher, whose performances included a rendition of Idina Menzel’s “Let It Go” from the movie “Frozen.”
Music was also included in the Hanukkah ceremony, as Shira Adler performed while lighting the menorah.
The celebration, which was held in front of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, also included raffle drawings with prizes.
Conducting this year’s tree lighting was 8-year-old Katonah resident Orion Brandt, who turns 9 later this month.
When asked what it was like to be able to light the tree, Orion had a mixed reaction.
“Well, it was kind of fun and kind of scary,” he recalled, attributing the latter to a lot of people watching.
The tree lighting, the final big event of the celebration, was introduced with a countdown from 10.
This year’s celebration was partially funded with donations raised through the donations website GoFundMe. As of Monday, a total of $6,146 is reported to have been raised.
The event was backed by the Katonah Chamber of Commerce. Rita Carrozza, who served as the celebration’s master of ceremonies, explained there is a holiday committee with board members. The members include, herself, chamber President Allan Eiffert, Kathy Boyle, Edris Sherer and Anne Hanley.
