The current lineup of the David Grisman Sextet includes bassist Jim Kerwin, flutist Matt Eakle, percussionist George Marsh, guitarist George Cole and violinist Chad Manning.
For nearly 50 years, Grisman, a mandolinist, composer, bandleader and producer, has been a guiding force in the world of acoustic music. His musical range is wide and deep – embracing many styles, genres and traditions.
Grisman forged a personal artistic path skillfully combining elements of the great American music/art forms — jazz and bluegrass with many international flavors and sensibilities. Through his path, a distinctive idiom – “Dawg” music, was given to him by Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead. With roots deep in the music of Jerry Garcia as well as the gypsy jazz of Stéphane Grappelli, Grisman brings his unique blend of 'Dawg music' to Caramoor with the David Grisman Sextet. Additionally, Grisman has inspired new generations of acoustic string musicians, while creating his own niche in contemporary music.
