Roberts leaves a legacy after stepping down in December as Bedford town supervisor having served 20 years in public office, however that is not all she is known for.
Roberts is also known for her signature high-heeled shoes — a theme that figured prominently at the recent tribute to Roberts that was attended by more than 400 guests.
The competition allowed community organizations to create and enter shoes to symbolize their missions.
Clare Murray, Community Center of Northern Westchester assistant director for operations, and Filippine Hoogland, a talented center volunteer, created “Welcome,” a clever take on "The Old Lady Who Lived in a Shoe," to express the vision of the Community Center of Northern Westchester.
Lit up from the inside, the shoe displayed windows that look into the many programs and services offered at the center. It won the prize for “Best Expression of Organization’s Mission” and the event’s attendees voted the center’s entry the prize for “People’s Choice.” The winning entry will be on display at the Bedford Free Library.
