A 20-year-old motorcyclist died in a Sussex County crash over the weekend, State Police said. Ryan Woodstead was heading south on Route 23 in Montague on his Yamaha motorcycle when he collided with a Chrysler Pacifica making a lefthand turn, around 5:20 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 1, New Jersey State Police Detective I Jeffrey Lebron said. A police officer in Sussex County has been charged in an on-duty theft, authorities said. Konstantinos Protogeropoulos, 26, a Hardyston police officer, stole a "certain movable property valued at $1,225," Acting Sussex County Prosecutor Annmarie Taggart said. Taggart did not say what the item was, but that he knowingly deprived that person thereof on Tuesday, Sept. 5. Protogeropoulos was charged with third-degree theft and second-degree official misconduct, Taggart said on Wednesday, Sept. 27.

A 35-year-old Pennsylvania man was struck and killed while crossing Route 80 in Sussex County Wednesday night, Sept. 20, state police confirmed. Troopers responded to the accident on the westbound side near milepost 23.2 in Byram Township around 7:55 p.m., NJSP Det. Jeffrey Lebron told Daily Voice. A Hyundai passenger vehicle was heading westbound when it fatally struck a man from Effort, PA, who was crossing the roadway, Lebron said. The man’s identity was being withheld pending family notification. The accident remains under investigation.
