: Tractor-Trailer Splits In Pieces, Lands On Car On Route 17
UPDATE: Northbound Route 17 in Mahwah was reopened around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday following a wild tractor-trailer crash earlier in the day. Only one lane of the southbound highway was open during the evening rush. There miraculously were no serious injuries in the crash, which left the rig scattered across both sides of the highway near the New York State border around 10 a.m. Aug. 2, Mahwah Mayor Jim Wysocki said. A tractor-trailer tipped across the entire southbound side of Route 17 early Saturday, closing the highway coming down from Route 287. The rig ran up the grassy curb outside Jack Daniels Porsche in Upper Saddle River, took down a sign and pitched onto its side, leaving it lying across both shoulders and all three lanes, shortly before midnight April 29. UPDATE: A retired Teaneck police officer was critically injured when he was thrown from his motorcycle after it struck a defective piece of roadway on Route 208, authorities said. UPDATE: A 21-year-old private ambulance worker was seriously injured when he got out of the rig while it was moving during an argument on Route 208, authorities said. UPDATE: Southbound Route 17 remained closed temporarily after a transformer fire downed wires and burned a portion of the roadway Wednesday night in Waldwick. Police initially closed the highway north at Allendale Road and south at Cameron Road around 9:15 p.m. Several area power outages were reported.
