A couple was struck crossing Bergenfield's main drag by an SUV driven by a fellow out-of-towner, authorities said. An unlicensed 28-year-old driver from Bergenfield who knocked down a pole and rolled his SUV while making an illegal turn at high speed before dawn Tuesday fled the scene and then returned, authorities said. A robber assaulted a T-Mobile store employee in Bergenfield before fleeing with an iPhone 13, authorities said. The robber was black, wearing a black long-sleeve shirt, blue jeans and a medical mask, when he entered the South Washington Avenue store off Main Street at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Police Lt. SWAT team members and Bergenfield police captured a 21-year-old man with a recent domestic violence history following what authorities said was another incident. Daniel Moncion-Ortega, 21, remained held in the Bergen County Jail on Monday, March 28, following the alleged assault the night before. Firefighters extinguished a smoky Saturday afternoon blaze that damaged four stores in a downtown Bergenfield commercial strip.
