Woman Struck And Killed Near Newark Library
A woman was killed when she was struck by a vehicle around noon Tuesday near the Newark Public Library, authorities said. The driver who struck her left the scene and was last seen heading towards McCarter Highway. The Essex County Prosecutor's Office later said the driver was later found by Newark police and prosecutor's investigators a short time later. No charges had been filed as of Tuesday evening. U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito and Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose Wednesday announced the arrests of nearly a dozen people involved with narcotics trafficking by a set of the Bloods gang. A total of 12 people have been charged in connection with the investigation into the G-Shine Bloods, which dealt fentanyl, heroin and crack cocaine, authorities said. Update: Seven Shot, One Killed Within Minutes In Newark Tuesday Afternoon
UPDATE, 7 p.m. -- Newark police said one of the victims, a male, was killed in the shooting at Martin Luther King Boulevard. Two females suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Also, about five minutes after the first shooting, a total of four males were wounded by gunfire at 200 South Orange Avenue. None of the injuries are life-threatening, police said. A Paterson-based school bus company that has routes in Newark is under investigation for alleged safety violations, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office said Friday. The prosecutor’s office executed a search warrant at the headquarters of A-1 Elegant Friday afternoon. A Bogota husband-and-wife team fenced goods stolen during dozens of burglaries of North Jersey cellphone and cosmetics stores, said authorities who arrested nine people during a massive law enforcement response. PD: Vandal Pours Chemical At Palisades Park Day Care Center Three Times
PALISADES PARK, N.J. – Palisades Park police arrested a man who they said poured some type of hazardous chemical on the wall of a children’s daycare facility three separate times. No injuries were reported in the incidents, which occurred from January through last month, Police Chief Mark Jackson said. Detectives identified 66-year-old Michael Dudman for pouring “an unknown hazardous substance” on the grounds of the facility, then arrested him at his Newark home, Jackson said.
