Snake Removed From Florida Flight At Newark Airport As Passengers Shriek
A horror movie just about came to life for passengers on a United Airlines flight at Newark Airport this week: Snake on a plane. A garter snake was removed from flight 2038 as passengers shrieked and lifted their feet around 1:15 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17 on the runway, according to SimpleFlying and Port Authority police. The little guy was released into the wild near the airport. The plane, which had arrived from Tampa, FL, was then searched for additional serpents, SimpleFlying says. None were found. A fast-acting Port Authority Police Officer came to the rescue of a choking ride share driver at Newark Airport last week. Ziva Yildiz was crouched over the roadway of Pitcairn Road when PAPD Officer Len Hoffman spotted him around 3:25 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, his department said. Hoffman sprang into action by performing the life-saving Heimlich maneuver and, after eight abdominal thrusts, the gum blocking the driver’s airway was released. Yildiz said he was extremely grateful for Officer Hoffman.

A thief was steps from fleeing with a fellow traveler's wedding band at Newark Airport when TSA and Port Authority officers teamed up to catch him, authorities said. Told that the ring was missing from a screened bin, a Transportation Security Administration supervisor reviewed surveillance video and saw the thief snatch it, the TSA's Lisa Farbstein said. An NJ Transit bus driver from Bloomfield was sentenced to New Jersey State Prison for dragging a passenger returning a woman's pocketbook in Newark, authorities announced.
