Paramus Firefighters Douse House Blaze
Paramus' bravest didn't have far to go to fight a house fire Thursday night. Police and firefighters quickly got to the Cedar Lane home around the corner from Fire Company No. 3 after the blaze broke out around 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Engine access off Cedar Lane was difficult, so firefighters cut a hole in the company parking lot fence to run a line to the 2½-story, wood-frame home. The fire was doused within 20 minutes. NJ Forest Fire: State Responder Critically Injured, Homes, Businesses Damaged, GSP Closed
UPDATE (w/VIDEO): A firefighter with the New Jersey Forest Fighter Service was critically injured while responding to what became a destructive forest fire on Sunday, authorities said. The wildfire jumped the entire width of the Garden State Parkway from Lakewood into Brick Township, damaged homes, office buildings and commercial businesses on and around Route 70 and forced the evacuations of a hotel, businesses and an entire neighborhood. : Resident, Two Dogs Escape Lyndhurst Fire
LYNDHURST, N.J. -- (UPDATE) A Lyndhurst resident made it out with two small dogs Saturday as flames engulfed the upper floors of a single-family home. Firefighters faced frigid cold in extinguishing the smoky Page Avenue blaze, which borough police Detective Vincent Auteri said apparently was sparked by a faulty extension cord in a second-floor bedroom. The resident "detected a strange odor [around 10:50 a.m.] and ultimately found the second floor engulfed in smoke," Auteri said.
