NJ Man, 39, Drowns In Delaware Water Gap
A New Jersey man's body was discovered in the Delaware River, authorities said. The 39-year-old Lakewood man was found dead in Bushkill, Pennsylvania, on Monday, Aug. 26, a National Park Service spokesperson said in a news release. His body was spotted about 20 to 30 feet from the shore at the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. A 24-year-old missing Delaware River swimmer from New Jersey has been found dead, officials said. Jeysson Ariel Osorio-Reyes went missing while swimming about 75 yards from the shoreline of Milford Beach, an unguarded beach, on Saturday, June 29 around 3:15 p.m. the National Park Service said. Emergency crews have recovered the body of a missing swimmer from the Delaware River after a three-day search. Jose Madera Martinez, 19, of Paterson, was found around 11:15 a.m. Sunday, July 16 near Kittatinny Point in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, according to a release from the NPS. Crews were continuing to search for a 19-year-old swimmer who went missing at the Delaware Water Gap. Witnesses said the Paterson man was trying to swim from the shoreline to the bridge abutments with three others when he began struggling in the current around 8 p.m. Thursday, July 13 at Karamac — located about a mile north of Route 80, in Warren County, officials said. Elizabeth Teen Boy Drowns In Delaware River
The body of an Elizabeth teen was recovered from the Delaware River Sunday, July 24, officials said. Divers recovered the boy's body at about 3:30 p.m., approximately an hour and 15 minutes after witnesses saw him go under near the Ames-Jennings site in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, the NPS said in a news release. Body Of Missing Delaware River Swimmer Found
The body of a swimmer who went missing last week in the Delaware River was found over the weekend, WFMZ reports. Christopher Schofield's body was found by a park visitor around 4:30 p.m. Saturday, near Kittatinny Point within the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, the outlet said. No Swimming Allowed In Delaware River Due To High Bacteria Levels
Swimming in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area was banned Sunday due to high levels of bacteria found in the water. The high levels found in the Delaware River were due to Tropical Storm Isaias, park officials said Sunday morning. Beaches were expected to remain closed through Tuesday, as swimming was banned in all park locations. Officials also urged those boating and floating to avoid contact with the water. "The water is tested regularly at the swim beaches," park officials said. "We will provide an update when the bacteria count returns to an acceptable level."

Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area officials are seeing an increase in the number of illegal dumping and vandalism incidences throughout the park in both New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Several species of small wasps that attack the eggs of a tree-eating beetle found in North Jersey were released last weekend within the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, according to a recent report.
