: Rutherford Man, 20, Injured In 50-Foot Fall From Top Of Palisades
A 20-year-old Rutherford man was rescued from the Palisades after he fell and was injured before dawn on Labor Day, authorities said. The victim called police from the Englewood Cliffs section of the Palisade Interstate Parkway overlooking the Hudson River at 2:12 a.m. Monday, Sept. 4, PIP Police Lt. Raymond Walter said. Parkway officers using GPS coordinates quickly located him about 50 feet down the cliff just south of the Rockefeller Lookout, the lieutenant said. Authorities were trying to determine how long a tree worker who died on the job in Closter had been suspended in the air. The worker was tethered in a harness nearly 40 feet up, supported by climbing ropes attached to several parts of the tree, when he apparently suffered a medical emergency outside a home on Anderson Avenue on Saturday, Police Lt. A chain-reaction collision that spread across both directions of the Palisades Interstate Parkway at the New Jersey/New York border left all involved without any serious injuries, responders said. A northbound driver lost control of her vehicle just south of the state line near Exit 4 shortly before 11:30 a.m. Sunday, April 10, they said. UPDATE: Five minivan occupants had to be hospitalized -- three of whom were extricated by police -- following a multi-vehicle crash that closed the northbound Palisades Interstate Parkway on Saturday for nearly an hour and a half, authorities said.
