These 18 NJ Big Lots Stores Are Among Nearly 1,000 Closing Nationwide: Here's When Big Lots, the popular discount retailer, is officially going out of business.  The company, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in September, has announced plans to close all 963 of its remaining stores nationwide, including 18 locations in New Jersey. The last day of business is expected to be in mid-February, according to sources familiar with the closures. Big Lots To Shut These New Jersey Stores: Closing Sales Under Way Big Lots! has announced the closures of even more locations since filing for bankruptcy in September. The company announced on Monday, Sept. 9 that it will sell its assets to an affiliate of private equity firm Nexus Capital Management. The treasured book store that long stood at 765 Route 17 south on the Ridgewood border will be replacing Big Lots! on Route 17 northbound, the store announced on Facebook. Big Lots ! is set to close in May, store associates tell Daily Voice. The space was formerly home to Toys 'R' Us.  "While we are sad to leave this location, we are excited for our next chapter," the store said. Big Lots Taking Over Paramus Toys R Us Big Lots is on its way to Paramus. The discount chain last year purchased the remaining 12-year lease on the 36,000-square-foot Toys R Us store on Ridgewood Avenue for $2.75 million, according to TheRealDeal.com. That's $6.50 per square foot annually, compared to $30 (had the chain signed a new lease on a larger space). The vacant space was transformed into a Spirit Halloween store last fall. Big Lots is known across 47 states for its closeout buys and massive furniture markdowns. No word yet on opening date.
