Dog Who Captured Hearts After Being Struck By Car On Route 4 Almost Ready For Adoption
A dog hit by a car earlier this month on Route 4 is nearly ready for a fur-ever family. Stella was struck by the vehicle in Hackensack on Oct. 13 and taken to Oradell Animal Hospital, where she was treated for broken ribs and a fractured pelvis. Stella has been transferred to the Bergen County Animal Shelter in Teterboro, where officials said she needs between four and six more weeks of recovery time before she can be adopted out. Salem Mannequin has been tirelessly searching for her yellow lab Nyla since the June 7 crash on the Cross Bronx Expressway at White Plains Road, she tells Daily Voice. A suspicious vehicle call led Hasbrouck Heights police to a drug-carrying, canine-accompanied trio wanted on warrants, authorities said. Officers Christopher Connors and Sgt. Dom D’Amico found the Subaru sedan in a Boulevard parking lot shortly before 6:30 p.m. Sunday, April 21, Lt. John Behr said. Skittish Kitten Rescued From GWB Traffic Available For Adoption
A kitten who was rescued from traffic on the lower level of the George Washington Bridge was available for adoption, authorities said. A motorist called GWB Port Authority Police Command station after scooping up the skittish kitty, who'd been dodging cars and other vehicles Monday afternoon, authority spokeswoman Lenis Rodrigues said. Port Authority police who retrieved the feline named her Highway, she said. They then arranged residence at the Bergen County Animal Shelter, where Highway was available for adoption, Rodrgues said Tuesday.

UPDATE: A deaf and blind senior dog who authorities said was dumped from a car in Teterboro last summer by her Fort Lee owner died Tuesday. Someone in another car saw Bruna, 16, being dumped on Industrial Avenue on Sept. 1 and gave authorities the license plate number and a description of the vehicle, Bergen County SPCA officials said at the time. A judge in Hackensack fined a Fort Lee woman $750 Monday after she admitted that she deliberately abandoned her 15-year-old deaf and blind Boston Terrier in Teterboro. Tania Connelly, 59, was tracked down and issued a complaint last month by the Bergen County SPCA’s Law Enforcement Division that charged her with “inflict[ing] unnecessary cruelty upon a living animal” by abandoning the aging pooch in a public place. Michael Goursky of Emerson died on Sunday, Sept. 16. He was 26 years old. Born in Hackensack, Michael was formerly of Hasbrouck Heights and had been working in construction, his obituary says. He is survived by his parents, Deborah (nee Wachter) and Gary Goursky; sister Christina Goursky; grandmother Peggy Goursky; along with aunts, uncles cousins and friends. Cremation was private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Bergen County Animal Shelter 100 United Lane in Teterboro.

A local Pit Bull whose owner recently died has found a new home with a Ridgefield police officer. Kevin Nebbia of Cliffside Park met Spanky while working. He and others in his department had been responding to calls in the dog's neighborhood over the past year.
