Bark Knights: Bergen Sheriff's K-9s Put On A Show
Every dog has his day, they say, and the four-legged members of the Bergen County Sheriff's K-9 Unit shared theirs on Saturday with dozens of mostly young attendees and their parents at Overpeck Park. Bergen County Sheriff Anthony Cureton joined the event, as a dozen highly-trained canines handled by two sergeants, seven officers and the lieutenant in charge of the unit raised the woof. A distinguished group of panelists from Bergen County and beyond have agreed to participate in a roundtable discussion on available resources for victims of domestic violence. The third annual Domestic Violence Awareness Symposium “will features stories of survival and offer support,” the borough of New Milford and its police department announced in a flier. Pedestrian Struck, Killed In Fast Lane Of Route 4
A pedestrian was struck and killed in the fast lane of Route 4 in Englewood overnight Sunday, authorities confirmed. A Honda struck Jorge Reyes Tapia, 42, of the Bronx in the westbound lane near Van Brunt Street shortly after 1 a.m., Bergen County Sheriff Anthony Cureton said. The driver then pulled into a gas station and called 911, the sheriff said. Tapia, who was crossing from the eastbound to westbound side of the highway, was pronounced dead at the scene. UPDATE: A 17-year-old River Edge girl and two Bronx teens were all seriously injured when their scooter barreled onto Route 4 and were struck by a passing vehicle, authorities said Sunday. The trio – including a 15-year-old girl and 16-year-old boy – were headed down Myrtle Avenue in Englewood late Saturday when the scooter hit a traffic island and careened onto the westbound highway, where they were struck by a vehicle, Bergen County Sheriff Anthony Cureton said. State authorities on Monday charged Saddle Brook Police Chief Robert Kugler with ordering on-duty police officers to conduct escorts for his funeral business using department vehicles. Bergen County Sheriff Anthony Cureton is adding a layer to the popular “coffee with a cop” campaign -- both literally and figuratively. : Bergen Sheriff's Officer Revives OD Victim At Hackensack Wawa
A Bergen County sheriff's officer revived a drug overdose victim from Englewood at a Hackensack convenience store. Officer John Ryan Greiner administered Narcan to the unconscious 41-year-old opioid victim at the Wawa on River Street shortly after 8:30 a.m. Sunday, Bergen County Sheriff Anthony Cureton said. The man eventually came around and was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center, the sheriff said.
