The good news: She was alert and conscious when EMS took her to Hackensack University Medical Center, Maywood Police Detective Sgt. William Phayre said.

Teen Girl Who Accidentally Shot Herself In Newark Dies A 13-year-old girl who accidentally shot herself on Friday night has died, sources with direct knowledge of the incident tell Daily Voice. The teen had been hospitalized after shooting herself in a Schley Street home around 11:30 p.m., Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said previously. She died around 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18 at University Hospital, sources said. The Essex County Prosecutor's Office is investigating.

13-Year-Old Girl Charged With Murder In Shooting Death Of Jersey City Man A 13-year-old girl was charged with murder in the shooting death of a 35-year-old man in Jersey City earlier this month, authorities said. The teen was apprehended and arrested by Jersey City police just before 7 p.m. on Christmas Eve, near Union Street and MLK Drive, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said. It was not clear how Holmes, of Jersey City, and the teen knew each other. The girl was among visitors to a Snow Drive home when she drifted into the deep end, responders said. The others apparently didn't know how to swim and, instead, tried to get her to grab onto items so they could pull her out, they said. Police instantly got to the home, on a private road off a dead end, and furiously tried to revive the victim before she was rushed to the hospital.
