The pastor at Cornerstone Christian Church on Wyckoff Avenue reported the tools missing at the end of January from a volunteer ministry van used to help people in need with construction projects, Police Chief Benjamin C. Fox said Tuesday.

Lt. Charles Van Dyk conducted the initial investigation, followed up by Detective Sgt. Joseph Soto and Detective Ryan Noon, who identified 36-year-old Jason Wittner from area surveillance footage.

They then learned that Wittner hocked the tools at a Saddle Brook pawn shop, the chief said.

"Some of the tools had been sold but two items were recovered," he said.

Wittner posted $10,000 bail and was released pending a hearing on burglary and theft charges.
