Officer Joseph Fullam found 36-year-old Richard A. Matronich “under the influence of something other than alcohol” after responding to the Grandview Avenue call, Police Chief David Murphy said.
After being interviewed and tested by a drug recognition expert, Matronich was charged with DUI in a school zone and reckless driving, Murphy said. He was released to his mother-in-law pending a court hearing.
In another incident, a few days later, a woman flagged down Officer Kenneth Marcoux on Franklin Avenue just before 3:30 p.m. and pointed him toward a vehicle stopped near the Monroe Avenue intersection.
Marcoux found Fausto E Mancero, 46, of Haledon “sleeping with his hands on the steering wheel and foot on the brake,” Murphy said. “The vehicle was running, keys were in the ignition and the vehicle was in drive.”
The officer safely woke Mancero, whose breath smelled of alcohol, the chief said.
Mancero was charged with DWI, reckless driving and delaying traffic. He was released to a family member pending a court hearing.
