Detectives are looking for anyone who might have helpful information.
The woman told police she’d left the Godwin Avenue restaurant around 11:30 Tuesday night and was headed to her home nearby when she was grabbed from behind and thrown to the ground by a a 6-foot-tall white man wearing a blue shirt and blue jeans.
She hit her head on the pavement, she said, and he tried to pull off her pants. But, she told police, “she freed herself by kicking him in the groin,” Fox told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.
While he was down, she said, she ran.
Fox asked that anyone in town call police if they see anyone suspicious, as a general practice. Be he re-emphasized that they “be aware of their surroundings, especially in the dark,” following the report.
Detective Sgt. Joseph Soto and Ptl. Michael DeMaio took the call and did the initial investigation, which is being handled by the Wyckoff Police Department Detective Bureau, Fox said.
Patrol units are giving the area extra attention, Fox told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.
“More importantly, I want to get the message to the community or those who live in the area to use extra caution while out at night,” the chief said. “It’s somewhat disconcerting especially with Halloween coming and more people on the streets after dark.”
To his credit, Fox has always been about arming residents and business owners with information.
“An educated community is a safer community, and it is a community more likely to call the police when they observe something they deem suspicious,” he told CLIFFVIEW PILOT. “The department is much larger when we also have the eyes and ears of everyone in town helping us.”
