Tragedy: GWB jumper was Bergen teen

Authorities believe a Franklin Lakes teen set to graduate high school this spring jumped to her death from the George Washington Bridge this morning while on her way to meet her parents.

The 18-year-old woman, whose name is being withheld by CLIFFVIEW PILOT, jumped around 8:30 a.m., a source with knowledge of the incident told the web site.

A car was found at the bridge, although it was unclear whether she had a driver’s license. Her body still hadn’t been recovered as of 6 p.m., a Port Authority source told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

EDITOR’S NOTE: My birthday and this awful tragedy are now forever linked. My heart aches for this girl’s family. Unfortunately, these decisions have to be made every day in the media business, and sometimes they turn out wrong, or wrong-headed. For that, believe me, I am sorry.
