Source: Photo points to more gang members in PATH train assault on four adults

EXCLUSIVE: A crystal-clear 42nd Street photo features purported members of a Newark Bloods street gang who fled after viciously assaulting four adults on a PATH train early yesterday, CLIFFVIEW PILOT has learned. Additional arrests are now expected, a law enforcement source with direct knowledge of the attack said.

One of four teens caught by Port Authority police following the attack had two previous convictions and an outstanding warrant — all for similar crimes, the source told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

The 17-year-old “faces serious penalties as a repeat offender,” the source said.

Meanwhile, the investigation continues into yesterday’s 1:20 a.m. assault, which, as CLIFFVIEW PILOT initially reported yesterday, sent four adults to the hospital.

It also forced the suspension of PATH service for an hour and 10 minutes as Port Authority police searched for other possible assailants after stopping the train in Hoboken,

Officers found a wallet belonging to one of the victims on the tracks, authority spokesman Joseph Pentangelo said.

The victims were three men, ages 29, 22 and 21 (two of them from Morris County), and a 21-year-old woman who hurt her shoulder when one of the teens ripped her purse from her arm, Pentangelo told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

One man had a cut lip and bruises on his face, another had facial injuries so severe he needed stitches and the third had a cut on his eye, he said.

All six youths, between 15 and 17, were being held in the Hudson County Juvenile Detention Center on assault and robbery complaints.
