The manager was attacked after he a security officer confronted Robert S. Paulter, 30, and 28-year-old Jennifer Chen outside the Stop & Shop in the Boulder Run Shopping Center, Wyckoff Police Chief Benjamin Fox said this afternoon.

The Kearny couple had fled with $700 worth of shoplifted razor blades, the chief said.

After Chen knocked the manager to the ground, Fox said, Paulter dragged him, causing injuries to his head and legs.

Paulter briefly scuffled with responding officers who handcuffed him and took him and Chen into custody, the chief said.

“The original shoplifting offense becomes a robbery charge when there is a personal confrontation between the offenders and the store employees,” Fox said.

Paulter and Chen — who have a son barely two years old — also were charged with assault. Police also charged Chen with heroin possession.

He was being held on $50,000 bail and she on $30,000 bail, both in the Bergen County Jail.
