A resident called police Thursday afternoon to report fireworks or gunshots behind her home near Lydia Lane, a residential neighborhood with the Bergen Christian Testimony Church nearby, Police Chief Benjamin Fox said.
Lt. David Murphy and Officers Thomas Tully and Ryan Tenney responded and found both men in the woods, with one of them carrying a 9mm Beretta, Fox said.
Christopher J. Galdi, 25, of Garden Street was charged with disorderly conduct and illegal discharge of a firearm within 300 feet of a home, the chief sid.
He may face additional charges if police determine that he and his brother weren’t on their family’s property, Fox said.
“It is fortunate that someone nearby is not experiencing a tragic holiday season due to an errant bullet being fired in the immediate vicinity of homes and a church,” Fox said.
Galdi was released without bail pending a Jan. 25 hearing in Wyckoff Municipal Court. His brother wasn’t charged.
