Judge Susan D. Wigenton also fined Vincent Hsia, 52, the former proprietor of Lincoln Pharmacy Network in Edison, $250,000 and sentenced him to three years of supervised release.
Hsia admitted filling bogus prescriptions for hundreds of thousands of doses of Oxycodone to be sold on the black market, while also ducking federal income taxes on $600,000 in cash seized by DEA agents.
“The oxycodone conspiracy which Hsia admitted not only extended for years, but also was extensive in terms of the quantity of oxycodone distributed,” U.S. Attorney Paul S. Fishman said.
Records show Lincoln Pharmacy bought 130,000 dosage units in 2007, followed by 218,000 the following year – and 480,000 in 2009.
The 2009 amount was nearly five times what all 170 other pharmacies in Middlesex County bought, Fishman said.
The statewide average bought by 1,966 pharmacies that year: 76,617 dosages
The nationwide average (60,968 pharmacies): 62,927 dosages
Fishman credited the DEA, FBI, and IRS, as well as the Newark, Elizabeth, and Nutley police departments and the Essex County Prosecutor’s and Sheriff’s Offices for the investigation leading to today’s guilty plea, secured by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Anthony J. Mahajan and Ronnell Wilson of the Narcotics/Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force Unit in Newark.
