Oakland police: Mexican immigrant paid $10,000 for docs to get driver’s license

YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: A Mexican immigrant tried getting a New Jersey driver’s license using credentials he bought from another man for $10,000, Oakland police said this morning.

Ruben Gonzalez-Trujillo, 25, of Butler, was arrested by Sgt. Keith Sanzari and Officers Ed McDermott and Stephen Broek at the NJ Motor Vehicle Commission office on Ramapo Valley Road on Friday.

Trujillo presented the other man’s birth certificate, Social Security card and debit card in attempt to apply for a driver’s license, Lt. Christian Eldridge said.

He was being held on $35,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail, charged with identity theft, forgery and offering a false document for filing.

An investigation was continuing.
