Officer William Plisich tried to pull the car over after clocking it at 55 miles an hour on Franklin Avenue, Police Chief Benjamin Fox said.

A brief chase followed before the driver hit traffic and was taken into custody, Fox said.

Naum A. Lavenvich, 47, was charged with eluding, speeding, DWI, reckless driving, refusing to submit to a breath test, running a stop sign, failing to keep right and having an open container of alcohol in a vehicle.

He was released without bail pending a Municipal Court hearing.
