Franklin Lakes Driver, 18, Injured When Car Hits Curb, Barrels Across Lawn

FRANKLIN LAKES, N.J. -- A speeding Hyundai driven by an 18-year-old Franklin Lakes woman struck a curb and barreled across a resident's lawn, hitting a flag pole, fence and trees, overnight Wednesday, authorities said.

Tori Lopis was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center with injuries that weren't considered life-threatening, Police Capt. John Bakelaar told Daily Voice.

Lopis, a Ramapo High School graduate, was headed east on Franklin Avenue near Cherry Street "at a high rate of speed" when she lost control of the 2015 Sonata just after 1 a.m., Bakelaar said.

The Franklin Lakes Ambulance Corps responded along with police, the captain said.

An investigation was continuing, he said.
