Franklin Lakes car theft, burglary reported

YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: Someone took a Mercedes Benz from its owner’s driveway and $300 in cash and clothing from another car a little over a mile apart over the weekend, Franklin Lakes police said.

A Hemlock Court resident said he 2011 Mercedes was swiped sometime between Saturday and yesterday (map above: A).

He told police he didn’t remember whether he’d left the key fob in the car or not, Detective Lt. John Bakelaar said this morning.

An Ottowa Lane (B) resident, meanwhile, said someone opened her unlocked car door before dawn Monday and took the cash and clothing.

Police urge residents to lock their vehicles, take the keys and not leave any valuables inside.
