Dozens take the plunge to raise money for Special Olympics

Dozens of people took the plunge Saturday to help Bergen County Sheriff Leo McGuire raise money for the Special Olympics. The 1st Annual Thanks “4” Giving Turkey Plunge is “a great way to work off those extra holiday calories without feeling overdone,” McGuire said.

The fun began at noon at Crystal Lake in Oakland, followed by an all-you-can-gobble-up buffet party right down the road at the New York Steakhouse.

Minimum donation is $50, or $25 for those under 18. Plungers who raise $100 or more earn an event sweatshirt.
“Get your plunge on,” McGuire said earlier this week. He said he people could raise money for Special Olympics by taking the advice of those who’d told them to “go jump in the lake.”

And he was dead-on about the weather — temperatures around 50 degrees (both the air and the water), with plenty of sunshine.
