Donovan said the inter-local agreement will save the taxpayers of Teterboro over $175,000 per year. Her executive order specifically notes that Gov. Christie’s Administration “is committed to and endorses the sharing of services between local units as a way of easing municipal budget restrictions thereby expanding municipal resources and reducing local expenses.”
Teterboro doesn’t have its own police department.
Bergen County Police already have a significant presence there through the county animal shelter, the Teterboro Vocational School and the opening of the new Juvenile Detention Center, Donovan noted.
County police patrol Route 46 in the borough of Teterboro and the BCPD Bomb Squad provides protective security for dignitaries arriving and departing Teterboro Airport, she added.
That included a visit to New York City by former President George W. Bush in late fall, CLIFFVIEW PILOT has known.
“This is a logical progression for the County Police to expand their presence in Teterboro,” Donovan said. “We will also be generating revenue for the County which will cover our costs and save money for the taxpayers of Teterboro.”
Borough officials will approve the move at their Dec. 28 meeting, she said. The contract then goes into effect Jan. 1.
