WYCOFF, N.J.— Vincent “Jimmy” Battista, 76, died Tuesday, Nov. 17.
Born in Avellino, Italy, he immigrated to the United States in 1955, lived in Elmwood Park where he was the owner of Elmwood Cleaners, and was a longtime resident of Wyckoff.
Battista worked as a textile machinist at Fabrite Laminating in Passaic, and shared his passion for being a machinist by building go-carts for his children and grandchildren through the years.
He was a parishioner of St. Anthony’s Church in Hawthorne, an avid soccer player, and a member of the Roma Sports Club in Paterson. He and his family owned Battista Dance Studio in Hackensack, where he lived out his second passion of being a disc jockey. He loved playing music for the dancers at their Friday and Saturday night socials.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Dora Battista; son Mario Battista, his wife Monica; daughter Elena Battista-Wertheimer, her husband David; three granddaughters: Olivia, Bianca, Carina; two sisters: Gerarda D’Argenio, Maria Puccio; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff.
There will be a funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Anthony’s Church, 276 Diamond Bridge Ave., Hawthorne. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum in Paterson.
