Sherrill Lea Harrod, 63, Of Oakland

OAKLAND, N.J. — Sherrill Lea Harrod, 63, passed away June 19, 2016.

Sherrill was born and raised in Oakland. She graduated from Indian Hills High School. She received a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from Hiram College in Ohio in 1974, where she enjoyed a semester abroad studying art history in Europe. She later attained a master's degree in marketing.

Harrod moved to Ringwood in 1985. A few years later, she met her best friend and companion of the last 25 years, Cosmo Cuocci.

Harrod worked for various companies, including American Cyanamid, Meldisco and Unilever. She loved the arts, nature, all animals (especially cats, birds and puffins) and loved to travel. She enjoyed many activities throughout the years, including hiking, bicycling and skiing. Skiing was her first love. She has been an active member of the Ramapo Mountain Ski Club the last 30 years. She served as both hospitality and tickets coordinator and was a member of the board of trustees. She also loved ice skating, rollerblading and snowshoeing.

She was a member of the First Church of Christ, Scientist in Pompton Lakes.

She was predeceased by her parents, Ruth and Sheridan Harrod.

She is survived by her life partner, Cosmo Cuocci; her half-brother Greg Harrod and his wife Judi of Fredericksburg, Va.; and her cats, Silverado and Maxine.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Oakland Memorial Home, Oakland.
