OAKLAND, N.J. -- Meta Mueller Franke, 79, of Oakland, passed away April 16, 2016, after a short and unexpected illness, surrounded by her family
Franke was born Dec. 29, 1936, in Bremen-Blumenthal, Germany. She immigrated to the United States at the age of 15 as an orphan following World War II.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Horst Franke; two sons, Frederick and Robert; daughters-in-law, Lisa Franke and Stephanne Franke; and four grandchildren, Tyler, Jessica, Alexandra and Natalie Franke.
Franke was employed for more than 20 years in the Ramapo/Indian Hills School district and was, at both schools, known and loved by students and faculty alike. Friends, neighbors, and students from the Oakland and Franklin Lakes area will remember Franke for her kindness, warmth, heart and compassion. She had the ability to touch people’s souls, make them feel at home, and encourage them to appreciate life.
A memorial service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. Family and friends may visit from 4-7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Oakland Memorial Home, 330 Ramapo Valley Road, Oakland.
