John F. 'Jack' DeKorte, 80, Of Franklin Lakes

FRANKLIN LAKES, N.J. -- John F. "Jack" DeKorte, 80, of Franklin Lakes, died Friday, Jan. 1. 

Born in Paterson, he attended Ramsey High School and Cornell University, where he graduated from the College of Agriculture in 1956.

His Navy ROTC commission led him to Puerto Rico, after which time he returned to his commitment to the family business, the Franklin Lake Dairy. From the mid-1960s until 1987, he enjoyed a successful career as a residential real estate broker at McBride Realty in Franklin Lakes. His later years were spent managing corporate real estate in Mahwah. 

DeKorte was married to his wife, Ginna, who predeceased him in 2004, for nearly 40 years. They enjoyed a lifetime of travel and golf in Sea Island, Bermuda, Scotland and Arizona. Later in life, his greatest joy was traveling with his children and grandchildren.

In recent years, he enjoyed spending time with his dear friend, Patricia, and her entire extended family. 

He is survived by his children Libby Ciampo (John) and John DeKorte (Lauren) both of Wyckoff, Margot Lewis (Merritt) of Bernardsville and Brian DeKorte of Glenmoore, Pa.; and his grandchildren Kevin, Kelly, Julia, Caroline, Jack, Jane, Sarah, Ryan and Cooper. He also is survived by his brother, Don DeKorte of Wantage, and many loving nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. 

His brother, Richard "Dick" DeKorte, predeceased him in 1975. 

Visiting hours will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 6, at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home,, 257 Godwin Ave. Wyckoff. There will be a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 787 Franklin Lake Road, Franklin Lakes. Interment will follow at Christ the King Cemetery in Franklin Lakes.
