Harold Dyer, 88, Of Wyckoff

WYCOFF, N.J. -- Harold Dyer, a resident of Wyckoff, died Monday, Feb.22. He was 88.

Dyer was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran serving on the USS Salerno Bay.

He started his career as a self-employed milkman, and was an owner of Green Meadow Farms in Wyckoff, after which he owned and operated White Cleaners & Launderers in Passaic for 40 years until he retired in 1981. 

He served as deacon at the Fourth Christian Reformed Church in Paterson, was a member of the Faith Community Christian Reformed Church in Wyckoff and was a member of the High Mountain Golf Club. He served on the board of directors of the Holland Christian Home for 24 years and the board of directors of the Atlantic Stewardship Bank for 28 years.

He is survived by his children, Robert A. (Eileen) of North Haledon, Kenneth R. (Susan) of Hawthorne, Ronald J. (Marti) of Grand Haven, Mich., Deborah L. Hoogerhyde (Randall) of Franklin Lakes, Beverly A. Peene (Bruce) of Hawthorne, and Dennis J. of Chesterfield; his 23 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his seven siblings.

Visiting hours are from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Ave. Wyckoff. The funeral service is at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the Laurel Grove Memorial Park in Totowa.
