The annual award recognizes volunteers, who are an "integral part" of the borough's success.

"Volunteers have given tirelessly their time throughout the years to benefit the residents of Franklin Lakes," the borough website states.

Winners come from many areas in the community, including municipal boards, Girl Scout and Boy Scout leaders, coaches and emergency services.

Last year, 10 residents were honored with the volunteer award: Dawn Altamuro, Christine Christopoul, Thomas Donch, Craig Goldman, Julius Lauber, Lynn Pagano, Cedric Perkins, Dina Robinson, Jacqueline Veliky and Regina Venner.

One of the previous winners, Veliky, said she was involved in many organizations as a volunteer. In addition to serving on the Franklin Lakes Board of Education, she helped with the Scouts, recreational sports and school activities with her children.

"I would say it was an honor to be given the mayor's volunteer award," she told Daily Voice.

Applications for this year's awards must be submitted to Borough Administrator Gregory Hart by Oct. 30.

The rules state that all volunteer activities must be performed in Franklin Lakes.
