Victor Wang, a student at Bergen County Academies in Hackensack, made a video asking Arden Cho, star of MTV's show "Teen Wolf," to his May 13 prom at Old Tappan Manor in hopes of reaching his celebrity crush.
"It started as a joke but as time went on became more serious," Wang, 17, told Daily Voice.
His video had nearly 2,500 views as of Tuesday evening.
In the video, Wang tells Cho that she's the yin to his yang and the pasta to his sauce, with visual representations.
He said they have plenty in common with good senses of humor and having moved around as children.
"I'm a huge fan of hers," Wang said. "I just think she has a really vibrant personality. She seems incredibly nice, incredibly funny."
In addition to her role on "Teen Wolf," Cho worked as a model and has a series of YouTube videos.
Wang said he thought of making the video around three or four weeks ago when he saw a similar one that inspired him. He previously had a girl from school he wanted to ask to prom but it didn't work out, he said.
Wang said he's not sure if his video prom-posal will work, but it's been an interesting experience.
"People definitely had some mixed reactions," he said. "Some say it's great, so cute. Some people are like, 'You got no chance.' That happens with anything. Theres going to be people who like it, and there's going to be the haters."
