WYCKOFF, N.J. -- If eating healthier was one of your resolutions this year, there's a quick-food chain with a big New Jersey presence that would like to partner with you. Saladworks provides over a dozen signature salads, as well as sandwiches and soup, all with accessible nutrition info.

Saladworks CEO Patrick Sugrue told Daily Voice that the company does see an annual spike in sales, following the new year, as people resolve to be healthier: "Every year, it seems to be something about less alcohol and better food. When people are looking to eat healthy, that's good for our business."

He believes they've got just the formula.

"A lot of people want to eat healthy but don't want to give up on flavor or variety," he said. Saladworks offers both convenience and customization, in providing great meals that are also very filling.

In addition to the chain's 14 signature salads -- which average under 300 calories, before you add dressing -- there's a build-your-own option. And all the salads can be made into wraps.

On the Saladworks website, as you select build-your-own options, the site tallies nutrition info. Customers can also select the "Allergens" tab to see what to avoid, if they have allergies or other dietary restrictions.

"Consumers are becoming more educated about their food," Sugrue said. "We do what the law requires," in terms of providing basic nutrition info, "but we also try to provide the information customers want."

The franchise chain, which celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2016, currently has 97 locations, in 13 states. The first Saladworks was in the Cherry Hill Mall, in Camden County. After expanding to more than a dozen locations in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, the company began franchising the concept in 2001.

You can view a menu here -- or go through a menu as you place your order online, for pickup or delivery. Customers who add the app can also earn rewards as they eat -- as well as gain entries in the "Power Your Winter" contest, for a chance to win a Peloton bike and other prizes.

There are five Saladworks locations in the Daily Voice coverage area. Bergen County has two: in East Rutherford, it's at 30 Rte. 17 North, and in Wyckoff, it's in the Boulder Run Shopping Center, 327 Franklin Ave.

In Passaic, there are two shops, both in Wayne, at the Willowbrook Mall and Waynechester, 1628 Route 23 North. In New York, the sole current location is in West Nyack, 1000 Palisades Center Dr.

Sugrue added that the salads and other eats aren't built with only vegetarians in mind: it's tasty fare for anyone wanting to add more veggies, or nutrition generally, into their lives.
