Accompanied by a volunteer, Tofu, a Chihuahua, and Beethoven, a Spaniel mix, visited with residents of the Heritage Manor Nursing Home at Christian Health Care Center (CHCC) in Wyckoff.
In preparation for the visit, residents made dog treats and catnip toys for animals at the shelter.
“The residents absolutely love animals, and this is a great way for them to connect with the community and give back,” said Linda Bunker, activities director at the nursing home.
Christian Health Care Center welcomes community members to bring their dogs to the center. According to CHCC, the benefits of pet therapy for residents include: lowering blood pressure; improving cardiovascular health; lessoning depression; and increasing socialization.
Those interested in CHCC’s pet therapy program can contact Bunker at 201-848-4249 or lbunker@chccnj.org.
