Mark Oberndorf's paintings will be exhibited at the CAT Walk, an outdoor art show, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1 in Hackensack at Banta Place and Main Street. The show is part of the Hackensack Street Festival.
He is also participating in the 52nd Annual "Art in the Park" show 11 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 15 at Van Saun Park, Paramus.
Additionally, Oberndorf's "History of NJ Diners" is on exhibit through Dec. 31 at the Morris Museum, 6 Normandy Heights Road, Morris Township, Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m.-5 p.m.
New Jersey remains the diner manufacturing industry’s hub. Dubbed “the land of diners,” New Jersey’s highways and main streets are dotted with silver airstreams and neon signs of the classic American diner.
Oberndorf's exhibition explores the rich history of the Garden State’s favorite casual eatery through classic photographs, historical artifacts and original oil paintings.
The artist's work is currently offered at galleries in the United States and Europe. Locally, his works can be viewed at The Westwood Gallery, in Westwood, and in the permanent collections of the Fritz Behnke Historical Museum in Paramus, Lambert Castle Museum in Paterson, or through his website www.markoberndorf.com or blog www.bendixdiner.blogspot.com.
"Most recently my focus has been on capturing communal landmarks in pre-gentrified neighborhoods in Bergen County, NJ and New York City, before their imminent demolition. These structures are fundamental to the visual history of the county and city, but are in danger of being lost forever under the guise of progress," the artists says on his website.
