Oakland Pub Pours Local Brews To Protect Local Water

OAKLAND, N.J. – Activists determined to intensify their fight against the proposed Pilgrim Pipelines are inviting people to gather at an Oakland pub to raise funds for their efforts – and drink locally brewed beer that they say relies on “clean water from the region’s reservoirs, rivers and streams.”

The event is a fundraiser for Coalition Against Pilgrim Pipeline (CAPP), a grass roots group opposed to the pair of pipelines that would send Bakken Shale oil and its refined products through dozens of municipalities in New York and New Jersey, including some in Bergen and Passaic Counties.

Opponents say the plan threatens drinking water.

“The stakes are high,” said Mahwah Mayor Bill Laforet. “Our drinking water is more valuable than crude oil. We are certain and determined to keep up the pressure and make our voices heard.”

Funds raised will go toward an intensified outreach effort to educate local residents on the pipelines and it projected effects.

The fundraiser will be held on March 30, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Valley Stables pub, 588 Ramapo Valley Road, in Oakland.

Admission is $40, and includes two draft beers and hor d’oeuvres. Tickets can be purchased at the door, or by clicking HERE.
