Enjoy The Festival Of Lights With Bergen County's Many Hanukkah Events

BERGEN COUNTY, N.J. -- Hanukkah falls early this year -- it begins at sunset, Sunday, Dec. 6 and lasts until Monday, Dec. 14. -- and, as always, Bergen County is ablaze with events. What follows is a sampling.

Englewood: Enjoy homemade donuts from Hummus Elite on Monday Dec. 7 at 6 p.m. for a menorah lighting at Englewood City Hall (Palisade Ave. and Van Brundt St.). There will be music, latkes and local community leaders in attendance. Information: (201) 907-0686, www.chabadhouse.com/

Fort Lee: Join the JCC of Fort Lee at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6 for a community Chanukah candle lighting at the Triangle (Main Street and Lemoine Ave). The group will also hold a candle lighting and Havdalah at the Triangle, Main Street and Lemoine Ave. on Saturday, Dec. 12.

Hackensack: Head to the Shops at Riverside (Rt. 4) on Tuesday, Dec. 8 at 6 p.m. for a menorah candle lighting. Enter the mall in the entrance between Maggiano's Little Italy and Bloomingdales. Ridgewood: In what has become a longstanding tradition, Reconstructionist Congregation Beth Israel offers an annual Chanukah celebration free and open to the public Families are encouraged to bring their menorah and candles on Sunday, Dec. 13 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. where pizza, latkes and other goodies will be served. Rutherford: Warm up with hot soup, latkes and jelly donuts -- and support the police forces of South Bergen when the Congregation Beth El of Rutherford hosts its second annual grand menorah lighting. The event, on Sunday, Dec. 13, falls on the eighth night of Chanukah, and starts at 4:30 p.m. at 185 Montross Ave. The free event will feature activities for all ages and is open to the public.

Teaneck: Help create a Shabbos care package for Jewish soldiers in the American armed forces overseas on Sunday, Dec. 6 at 6 p.m. at the Teaneck Chabad House (513 Kenwood Pl.). Some of these items will be used to build an eight-foot menorah. A magic and comedy show will take place following the menorah lighting. Tenafly: Get into the holiday spirit at the 22nd annual Chanukah Concert, performed by the SHIRAH Community Chorus on the Palisades. The event takes place Sunday, Dec. 6 at 2 p.m. in the Kaplen JCC on the Palisades (411 East Clinton Ave.) The program will feature celebratory songs from the Jewish choral tradition in Hebrew, English and Yiddish. Woodcliff Lake: The public is invited to a multi-generational celebration on Sunday, Dec. 6 at 10 a.m. at Temple Emanuel of the Pascack Valley (87 Overlook Dr.) where there will be a community candle lighting and concert by the world famous a cappella group Six13.
