Bergen County's Only Buddy Walk For Down Syndrome Steps Off In Wyckoff

WYCKOFF, N.J. -- Join walkers of all ages on Saturday, Oct. 1 for the 12th Annual Bergen Buddy Walk at the Wyckoff Family YMCA.

Approximately 1,000 children, parents, grandparents and community supporters will step off, rain or shine, for the one-mile walk.

Registration begins at 10 a.m. and the walk will begin at 11a.m. 

Events include live music, a real fire truck to explore, children’s face painting, exhibits and information from special needs organizations, games, giveaways, prizes, and food.

Sponsorships and registrations are still being accepted. Registration fees are: $10 per adult, $5 per child (12 and under) which includes a t-shirt, lunch, (while supplies last) and full access to all the day’s events. 

The Buddy Walk has three primary goals 

  • To promote acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome
  • To raise funds both locally and nationally for education, research, and advocacy programs including special needs programs at the Wyckoff Y and the New Jersey Special Olympics
  • To enhance the position of the Down syndrome community
