The Hawthorne mother currently leads mommy-and-me along with prenatal yoga classes at Wyckoff’s First Impressions 3D/4D’s ultrasound studio.
Rivera will be adding two classes at Yoga Vibe in Waldwick, which only recently opened, beginning Sept. 20, and hopes the participants will reap the same benefits she does.
"One of the central teachings in yoga is to be in the present moment," she said. "As anyone can understand, our brains are constantly thinking about everything other than what is going on right now."
"In our yoga practice, we focus completely on the present."
That's translated nicely into parenting for Rivera, who hones in the moments she knows she wants to savor with her kids.
Yoga has helped her slow down and participate in what's unfolding in her relationship with her children.
But, she said, the friends she's made along the way are what keep her going.
"The community that is created, specifically in the prenatal and postnatal classes, is unlike any other class," Rivera said. "All the moms or moms-to-be are in the same stage in their lives."
For Rivera, that bond with other parents is invaluable.
"I adore what I do and wouldn't have it any other way."
